English Speaker's Mistake One
A life or death illness?
|
A mother wrote this to her son's teacher when her son was sick:
"My son is under a doctor's care and should not take P.E. today. Please execute him."
Explanation: "P.E" means "Physical Education". If the woman's son is sick (under a doctor's care), then it is
perfectly normal to inform the boy's teacher. However, her son should be "excused" from P.E. class, so he will not have to
participate. To be "executed", on the other hand, means
"to be killed"! In SOME cases, I can imagine SOME teachers wanting to execute SOME students.
But probably not this time. (^_^)
