Riddle One: A Riddle with a Rhyme

This riddle uses the literal meaning (the exact, word-for-word meaning) of an expression to make a joke. Can you find the answer? Look at the words in the question carefully!

Question: What is orange and sounds like a parrot?

Think about this riddle for a moment, then look at the bottom of the page for the answer...

Answer: A carrot.

Explanation: A parrot is a talking bird, so it makes a lot of noise. But a carrot is a vegetable and does not make any sounds. How can it sound like a parrot? The word "carrot" itself rhymes with (sounds like) "parrot". So, "a carrot" sounds like "a parrot"! Got it?
