Challenging Riddle Two: A Strange Event

Question: A man goes into a bar and asks for a glass of water. The barman pulls out a gun, and points it at the customer. "Thank you" replies the customer and walks out. What happened?

Hint: Think about why a man would order water in a bar. Also think about how you would feel if someone pointed a gun at you. After you think about it, look at the bottom of the page for the answer...

Answer: The customer had hiccups.

Explanation: Hiccups (also spelled "hiccoughs") is when you get a small bit of air in your chest and the air comes up many times, making a funny noise. To stop hiccups, you have to change your breathing. One way to do that is to drink water. Another way is to be scared by something. When you are scared, you stop breathing for just a moment, and that can stop the hiccups. This customer tried drinking water first, but the bartender scared him with the gun. It must have worked, because the customer said "Thank you". Got it?
